Dr. Rick Rigsby, the former Texas A&M professor and best-selling author who has motivated millions around the world with inspiring speeches, returns to Aggieland Thursday, September 27 as the keynote speaker for the 2018 Brazos Valley Business Forum hosted by the Brazos Valley Economic Development Corporation.

A California native, Rigsby made the move into teaching communications after about a decade in television news. He first came to College Station in 1992 and quickly caught the attention of A&M students, faculty and staff. Aggie Head Football Coach R.C. Slocum brought Rigsby into the team’s fold as a life skills coordinator, and later, a chaplain. Rigsby’s teaching and motivation earned him numerous accolades on campus, along with speaking engagements across the region, state, nation and world.

In 2006, Rigsby moved to Dallas and released a best-selling book. “Lessons from a Third Grade Dropout” chronicled how his father left school to help his struggling family and went on to consistently inspire Rick. The book’s teachings served as a basis for Rigsby’s 2017 speech to the California State University Maritime Academy. More than 130 million people viewed portions of the remarks within 30 days of Rigsby giving them. He spoke about making positive impacts, rebounding from failure and overcoming adversity. It cemented his place as one of the most sought-after speakers.

This year, Rigsby released a new book, titled “Afraid to Hope: Discovering the Courage to Dream Again.” Its goal is to motivate readers to move past fears in life in search of a better tomorrow.

Rick and his wife, Janet, continue to reside in Dallas. He has four children.
