Facing Forward at the Brazos Valley Business Summit

The 2019 Brazos Valley Business Summit once again brought business and community leaders together for a day of insight, information and networking.

The theme of the second annual event put on by the Brazos Valley Economic Development Corporation was “Facing Forward.” The September 26 gathering at the Texas A&M Hotel and Conference Center featured presentations and discussions on a wide range of issues currently affecting the region, along with forward-facing matters.

The keynote speaker was acclaimed business and pitch coach Chris Westfall. The international best-selling author’s speech was based in part on his new book, “Leadership Language,” which Summit attendees received as part of the event.

"It seems like it's an entrepreneur's economy, and for the entrepreneurs, the owners and the founders who are here, it's a fantastic opportunity to be in the Brazos Valley right now," Westfall told KBTX.

Westfall’s work ranges from Fortune 500 companies to young entrepreneurs like those at StartUp Aggieland, where Westfall has coached since 2013.

The Summit featured an update on the recently approved Brazos Valley Economic Development Strategy and its implementation plan. BVEDC President/CEO Matt Prochaska joined a wide range of community leaders to discuss the creation of the strategy and its goal of creating a more prosperous business community and a more vibrant quality of life in the region. More than 1,500 people provided input for the creation of the strategy.

The topics of the breakout sessions held during the day ranged from cybersecurity to courting venture capitalists to knowing the newest members of the workforce from Generation Z. The event also provided ample opportunity to network, including with a networking lunch that encouraged meeting new people.

"Today is about equipping business leaders with knowledge, with more ways to improve their businesses and with resources and chances to network with the community," Prochaska told The Eagle.
